The Baggie Trick

If you’ve ever seen someone with gorgeous, healthy hair and wondered what they did to get it, you’re not alone. Almost all of the Black women that I know with super long hair have one common practice… protective styles. Sure, there are women who are able to wear their hair down most of the time and still grow it to great lengths, but they are the exception.

In my quest for longer hair, one of the first things I learned was that the ends are the oldest and most fragile part of the hair. If I wanted my hair to grow longer, I needed to protect them. So once I came out of the braids, I started doing the baggie trick. To be clear, I did not invent it. I learned it years ago on a now defunct Yahoo group called Black Hair Super Grow Out (BHSGO).

The ladies at BHSGO helped me figure out which products to use. I ended up mixing several products in my bathroom to get the right amount of moisture and hold. I incorporated them and the baggie trick into my regime. The rest is history. Normally I wear black, but I did this pictorial in white so it's easier to see:

Step 1: Put hair in a ponytail and braid
Step 2: Roll hair into a ball and wrap in folding baggie
Step 3: Cover baggie with a sock
Step 4: Wrap with Big, Fluffy Scrunchie

If your hair is not long enough for a ponytail, you could do what I did and wear individuals until you get there. If you already have the length, but seem to be stuck, give it a try. You might be as surprised as I was with the results!

Round out your new regime with the Precious Tresses Starter Kit. These products were developed based on the products that I mixed in the bathroom back in the day and had so much success with.
